Coconut chutney is a South Indian spicy chutney, a side-dish . It is served with Idli, Dosa and even with cooked rice. It is made with two methods: liquid and solid. Generally, liquid Coconut Chutney is served with Idli, Rice balls and Dosa, whereas the solid one is served with cooked rice at lunch and dinner.
Indian breakfasts be it dosa, idli, vada, upma or pongal, None of these are complete without the mighty COCONUT CHUTNEY!!!
This chutney is red in color due to Red Chilli. If you use Green chilly the chutney color becomes green.
There are variety of chutney's like Mint Chutney, Coriander Chutney, Curry leaves chutney, Brahmi leaves chutney,....many more.
Ingredients:
- Coconut -1/4qty of one full coconut
- Tamrind -very little only for taste, may be half of a seed
- Red chilly -1 small(depending on spicy of ur choice)
- Onion -1/4th of a onion
- Urad Dal - 1/4tsp
- Mustard Seeds- 1/4tsp
- Oil - 1tsp
- Curry leaves - 4 or 5 leaves
- Salt as per your taste
- Water
Method:
- Grind Coconut, Tamrind, Red chilly, Onion and Salt with desired quantity of water.
- Seasoning : Fry oil in a Pan, add mustard seed, as it sputters add Urad Dal, Curry Leaves, Onion
- When this content in Pan becomes brownish add directly to the grinded mixture

Seasoning gives a different taste to chutney not only chutney but most of the Indian food
